Adn the first thought came to my mind was the MMORPG Maple Story.
It was my favorite game during my study time.
And the class that I felt the coolest was the assassin, who used claws too throw throwing stars at the enemies.
As I drew shuriken before, and the game graphic was much simpler (cute 2D graphic).
I thought it was a suitable challenge for beginners.
Yet, I was too naive...
Subi
Basically the same from previous drawing (shuriken from Naruto).
Not even a single change from it. :P
Wolbi
A simple throwing star.
But I guessed I messed up with the blade a bit (seems not so sharp).
Snowball
The simplest throwing stars from all the throwing stars available.
Basically just a sphere.
Cracker Shooter
I almost missed this until I saved the in-game icon for blog posting.
It was an exclusive for SEA server, for the celebration of Chinese New Year.
Mokbi
It was a bad result.
At that time I was not too familiar with chamfer effect, which I only used the default setting (chamfer the set distance at 45 degree).
Thus, the blade seems so awkward.
Wooden Top
A fairly simple piece of work for me.
Paper Fighter Plane
Somehow I couldn't use any method which I knew for this one.
Thus, I had to search YouTube for tutorial.
And eventually ended up using Sheet Metal feature.
Yet, even followed every step from the YouTube video, the result seemed different.
So I had a hard time to fix it (without knowing how and why)...
Orange
It had been a while I had to think using my rusty brain.
The green tip was a challenge for me.
And somehow I came up with some awkward procedures.
Fortunately the outcome was satisfying. :)
Kumbi
I failed badly for this.
When trying to search for a clearer icon to understand the structure, I found the picture from the trading card.
I never knew there was a card game for this and it gained my interest...
Anyways, back to the topic, I tried to draw according to the picture from the card.
And the outcome is as bad as shown above.
Not only I don't know how to make it curvy on the surface, and I tried to add too much features on it which made the throwing star too thick.
IT WAS NOT SHARP AT ALL.
Just hope that the weight itself could smash the enemies and gave hard blunt damage...
Icicles
Quite an easy work as well.
To recreate the groove, I had to learn to use the helix feature.
Maple Throwing Stars
For that irregular profile shape, I had to use the sketch picture feature.
And it was then I started to familiar with more setting in chamfer function.
Still, due to profile and area, I couldn't make the blade as steep as I wanted.
Tobi
Basically just mokbi with four more sharp-pointed blade.
Just edited the previous file for it.
Steely
And it was the same from the previous kunai.
Just changed the material and added in the red strap.
And I couldn't believe I used hours to make that strap... :|
Ilbi / Crystal Ilbi / White Gold
Although inside the game ilbi is a throwing star used by high leveled player, somehow I made it look cheap.
Well, at least for crystal ilbi and white gold, the appearance seemed good by changing the material color.
Magic Throwing Stars
To me, this throwing star seemed awkward at the first glance.
The blades were not spreaded out evenly for the whole circle.
I would like to make them to do so.
Yet, on another thought, if the blades were spread out evenly, the user couldn't hold the throwing star.
I guess each design has its own purpose/function.
Thus, I followed back the original design.
And don't tell me I missed out the lightning effect.
It is out from my league.
Hwabi
The moon blade made it seems more to Chinese product, and I am not sure why.
Maybe it is because of the weapon for the monks in Chinese drama shaped like a crescent moon too.
Balanced Fury
A throwing star symbolizing Chinese Taoism.
I decided to make it to have two layers of blades.
It made it much more logical.
Or else how will the blades attached to the center?
Infinite Throwing Star
This is not available inside the game yet during my childhood time.
The handle was using exactly the same method as steely.
The red color covers the surface too much which shows how incompetence my skill is.
Flame Throwing Star
Another throwing star which I had never seen before.
The flame-shaped blades were a big challenge as not much dimensions available.
I had to estimate and adjust on my own.
Somehow each end seems too narrow.
Actually I finished this series around mid Dec if not mistaken.
I realized I missed out a lot of basic skills and knowledge.
So I decided to follow the YouTube tutorial videos to draw.
Basically will be drawing products that could be seen in real world.
How about drawing the weapons seen in anime/game?
I guess it will be halted until I finish the tutorials or I deem I had enough skills.
Hope it would not be another 3-minute passion.
